A. Call to Order

C. Approval of Notes

The notes of the March 22, 2018 meeting were approved as printed.

D. Board Goals

Mr. Dusek discussed the 2018-19 board goal activities that are pertinent to the Information Committee. The committee reviewed and discussed the activities and fine tuned some of the dates and language.

Goal 1

Mr. Navarre suggested a presentation to students participating in the Job Shadow program.

The committee discussed budget and funding issues. The committee considered a joint Information and Finance Committee meeting.

Goal 2

Mr. Dusek discussed the new student advisory committee and the plan to have 4-6 student attend the Association of Alaska School Boards (AASB) Legislative Fly-In. The committee discussed having a student representative on each board committee.

Goal 3

Mr. Dusek discussed current safety processes and plans for improvement. He explained the ALICE drills and work the district is doing to coordinate training with local first responders.

The committee will email Mr. Dusek or Mrs. Tressler if they have other ideas or suggestions in preparation of the Sept. 10 work session.

E. Association of Alaska School Boards 2019 Resolutions

Mrs. Vadla explained the process and timeline for submitting new resolutions to AASB stating that the board would need to act on any proposed resolutions at the Sept. 10 board meeting. Mr. Dusek stated that no board members offered suggestions for new resolutions. Any board suggestions needed to be received before this committee meeting in order to be properly vetted and prepared for the Sept. board meeting.
The committee further discussed the current and sunsetting resolutions. They discussed the "Where We Stand" document and its formatting. The committee reviewed and discussed various current resolutions.

The resolutions will be further discussed during a work session on Sept. 10. At that time, the board will decide how to proceed. The committee did not develop any new resolutions to present. They considered proposing that a letter be written to AASB regarding the resolution process and documents.

F. State and Federal Legislative Priorities 2019

The committee reviewed the 2018 priorities and discussed proposed 2019 priorities.
Mr. Dusek presented the committee with his suggested priorities. The committee discussed Mr. Dusek suggestions.
The committee discussed school vouchers, charter schools and their possible effects on the district.
They considered including "Fully Fund Federal Programs" again this year as a federal priority.

G. Board Liaison to Borough Assembly Meetings

Mr. Dusek suggested the liaison be assigned in October. He suggested a separate action item in Oct. because it is the first time assigning this position.

BB 9130 Committees will required a revision to list the new assignment.

Mr. Navarre suggested assigning a member and an alternate to ensure that all assembly meetings are covered.

The next committee meeting will be scheduled for middle to late September.
