Any updates on Budget that would impact Charter Schools? Mr. O'Brien said nothing has been brought forward that would impact Charter schools for this coming school year.

D Proposed AR 6181 of Anchorage

This was recently passed by Anchorage. AR 6181(h) Principal/Administrator Evaluation. Concerns with having teachers on the APC board. Some of our charter schools have teachers/staff on APC board. Concerns about conflict of interests. Clear lines drawn with teachers on APC and employees. Charter Schools APC also have authority over hiring and firing, could also be a conflict of interest. We send out staff surveys, parent surveys, they still have input on the process. It was suggested that before we move this policy forward, we should make sure all Charter Schools have a chance to weigh in. Send a copy to Charter School principals to address with their APC. It would need to come back to Charter School, then Policy Committee. The Committee agrees to move this policy forward, put on agenda next month.

E. Charter School Advisory Committee

Lynn reviewed the Charter School Committee Charge. BP 6187 - Lynn feels there is more that the Committee should be doing. The Charter Schools submit their annual report. Lynn would like a review by the Committee. The APC reviews annually their charter and whether they are meeting their goals. A request for a copy of the Charters review to this Committee. Administration reviews the Charter schools continually. KPBSD is very fortunate with our Charter Schools. End of year financial reports are submitted to District Office. Some of what Charter Schools do have an effect on the district. District is responsible for how they spend their money. The district could learn from Charter Schools, what are they doing well, how can district learn from them. Possibility of a section in policy regarding Charter Schools, expectations set out for charter school. Having an annual review meeting, this would not put anything additional for the schools to provide a copy to the Board. Would like to know how many students live in their attendance area annually. Request to put APC annual meeting dates on the KPBSD district calendar. Improving communications. Timeline and expectations.
