A. Call to Order

Mr. Tauriainen called the meeting was called to order at 11:00 a.m.

C. Approval of Notes June 1, 2020

The notes from the June 1 meeting were approved as presented.

D. 2020-2021 Fall Restart Update

More communication is better was taken from last meeting. News release went out to all staff, all peninsula media including Anchorage.
Mr. O'Brien sent all staff letter and follow-up text message to remind them to check emails. We used School Messenger for the communications that were done. She continues to be active with all agencies. She starts Monday and Thursday morning with updates. She has completed a lot of media interviews.

E. 2020-2021 Annual Report

Ms. Erkeneff is still working on the Annual Report. It will go to the printer in the next couple of weeks. It will be same as we have done in the past. Will be out third or fourth week of August.

F. 2020-2021 Communication Plan

Ms. Erkeneff noted that some of our communications have information embedded in them. She and Ms. Adams are working on a communication specifically for parents. They are working on a document to help parents decide what method of education they will choose for education for their student. Parents may be changing their minds from where they were in May.
She recommended a couple short videos and work with schools with their own communication platforms. So everyone in that school know where to go for information at that school. Every school's website will have the information about where to go for information on their school. One other piece, on home page IT is working interactive map with up to date color levels at each school. She is working on a full document to help them understand.

Mr. O'Brien is willing to do a Facebook live. They met with Dr. Zink and her team last week. Mr. Jones has created the per 100,000 conversion chart for smaller communities. It is possible that the Governor may very well be doing something with face masks and coverings. This could change parts of the plan. We will do everything we can to make sure people are up to date. Mr. O'Brien noted that they chose to hold off on Leadership meetings last spring. The plan is to have principals invite key members of their leadership team, take a day or two working directly with principals and their teams to see what will work with their school. It is critical that the board approves the extra days tonight. Schools will need that time to do what we are talking about here. Principals will be on contract at the end of July and we will begin immediately working with them. We looked at the plan to bring back staff early but it is over $400,000 to the district per day. Those funds are not available. As soon as the plan is passed Mr. O'Brien will submit the request for the non student days and a waiver. He noted that we need to follow mandates. He hopes that people start taking things seriously.
Ms. Erkeneff noted that the increase will affect how we open our schools in August. Mr. Kelly appreciated the numbers that Mr. Jones prepares and that it is updated every day and feels it is a very important piece. Ms. Erkeneff added that Dr. Zink loved the chart. She noted that most people only want to know the risk today and how does it effect me. In their call with Dr. Zink, said that the actual data we are getting is about a week behind of where we are. Mr. O'Brien noted that they will look into simplifying the chart.

Mr. O'Brien noted that there are complications with Board members jumping in on social media. Individually, it is complicated and it would be cleaner to have administration take that role. He noted that many meetings have consumed the summer and that we are in better shape than most districts right now. He commended the plan and is sharing it with other superintendents. He noted that we are not super human and we can't ask the staff to do more than they are capable of doing.
