1. Charter School Advisory Committee

A. Call to Order

Ms. Truesdell called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.

B. Roll Call

Committee Members Present:
Patti Truesdell, Matt Morse, Tim Daugharty, Kari Dendurent, Kyle Darbonne(virtual), John DeVolld, Cody McCanna, Dawn Grimm(virtual), Elizabeth Hayes

Committee Members Absent:

Eric Waltenbaugh, Austin Stevenson

C. Approval of Notes 01-11-2022

The 01-11-2022 notes were approved as presented.

D. Homer Forest Charter School Application

The Homer Forest Charter School applicants presented their initial charter school application to the committee. Ms. Dendurent posed questions regarding facilities as well as curriculum to the Homer Forest Charter School Applicants.
Ms. Sturm stated that the curriculum is more philosophy and is project based learning. Ms. Head spoke regarding facility proposals in Homer. She spoke regarding partnerships and resources in the search for a location of the school.
Mr. Morse posed questions regarding enrollment and funding for the school, as well as, grade level commitments. Mr. McCanna posed a question regarding required testing for the respective grade levels and performance. Ms. Grimm spoke regarding competition with other schools in regards to organized sports. Ms. Sturm spoke regarding the vision of the K-8 that Homer Forest is proposing. Ms. Dendurent spoke regarding the potential impact this Charter School could have on the Homer community, and the recruitment for the school. She also spoke more on the enrollment and staffing of the school, as well as, the particulars of the facility for the Charter School. Ms. Truesdell posed questions regarding intensive needs students. Ms. Sturm answered that the Charter School will have smaller classes and flexible time schedule will be able to be inclusive of all students. She spoke regarding the start of the Charter School proposal and schools that they are modeling their proposal after. Mr. McCanna spoke regarding the testing requirements. Ms. Dendurent spoke regarding further provisions and questions moving forward.
The committee has decided to table the charter school application to a future committee meeting for the applicants to provide additional materials and provisions for the committee to review.
