A. Call to Order

10:07 a.m.
As Mr. Navarre attended via telephone; Mrs. Vadla agreed to chair the meeting.

B. Roll Call

C. Approval of Notes

The notes from the March 6, 2018 meeting were approved as printed.

D. Legislative Update

Mr. Dusek gave an update on the current status of the legislature and its work. The committee discussed the House of Representatives budget and when it might possibly be passed.
Mr. Dusek explained and discussed the term "harden your schools" in terms of school security. The committee discussed school security options and possible legislation that would be required for various plans. Mr. Dusek discussed the school resource officers and their purpose in district schools and the district's ALICE program. The committee agreed that school security needs to be dealt with by the entire board.
Mr. Navarre discussed Senate Bill 78, introduced by Senator Click Bishop, regarding Permanent Fund Dividend donations for education.
Mrs. Vadla shared information regarding lobbying which she will later share, in printed form, with the committee.
Mr. Navarre left the meeting at 10:52 a.m.

E. AASB Legislative Fly-In Preparation Information

Ms. Erkeneff discussed the documents for the fly-in packets which the attending board members will present to legislators during their appointments on March 26 and 27, 2018.
Mr. Dusek suggested the fly-in attendees meet with him in Juneau on Sunday to discuss the AASB conference information and to prepare for the legislator appointments. He stressed that the district supports a long-term, sustainable fiscal plan. Mr. Dusek discussed and explained personalized learning. The committee discussed possible topics of discussion for the appointments.
Mr. Illg left the meeting at 11:03 a.m.
The committee discussed Senate Bill 104 regarding education curriculum.
Mr. Dusek shared district employee reduction information, both the recent past (5 years) and the future proposed.
The committee discussed current education practices and improvements over the last 20 years.
Mr. Dusek stated that the Board of Fisheries will be meeting during the fly-in.
