Background Information:

At the Oct. 1, 2019, regular municipal election, Ms. Martha Fleming was elected to serve as the school board member from District 6 East Peninsula.

Attached is a letter from Ms. Fleming, dated Oct. 30, 2019, informing the board that she would not be taking the Oath of Office.  Ms. Fleming's letter invokes the 30-day time frame for filling her vacant seat as per BB 9223 Filling Board Vacancies and Kenai Peninsula Borough Code 1.20.110 – School Board-Vacancies.

The vacancy will be advertised through the district website and social media, at the district office, and through other local media, beginning on Nov. 14. The vacancy will be advertised in the Peninsula Clarion and Seward area newspapers as soon as possible after the vacancy is declared (see attached advertisement).

The deadline to apply is Nov. 22, 2019, at 3:00 p.m.

During a special meeting on November 26, 2019, the board will interview the applicants and select and seat an appointee to fill the District 6 position until the next regular municipal election, Oct. 2020.

Administration recommends the board declare a vacancy for the District 6 East Peninsula seat and open the application process through Nov. 22, 2019, at 3:00 p.m.
