Background Information:

Please find attached below a letter from KPB Mayor Charlie Pierce to KPBSD Superintendent John O'Brien regarding the Kachemak-Selo School Grant Funds and a possible legislative request to transfer those funds to the Department of Commerce, Community & Economic Development (DCCED), with the intended purpose of not having to provide a local match to access the state portion of the grant.

I have also attached several documents to provide a historical background related to the Kachemak-Selo School project, as well as statutory requirements in place.

There was previous agreement between KPB and KPBSD on a proposed fall 2020 school facilities bond package. Matching funds for the Kachemak-Selo School Grant were included in the facilities bond package. When COVID-19 entered the picture, both parties agreed that the fall 2020 facilities bond package had little chance of success, and it was agreed that the school facilities bond package would be moved to the fall of 2021.

If the legislative project to move the grant funds to DCCED is pursued, it is imperative that actions in support of the fall 2021 facilities bond package also proceed in case the DCCED project is not successful.
