Background Information:

During this work session Administration will present updates and new information related to the ongoing district response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

1) Update on the current COVID-19 Risk Levels and pertinent medical information for Alaska, the Kenai Peninsula Borough, and each geographical region of the District.

2) Vulnerable Students: The Director of Student Support Services will present on how Pre K, K, and Special Education Intensive Needs students have been being served during periods of RED/High Risk.

3) Summary of all the positive cases that have impacted KPBSD schools and programs since August. We will outline the number of schools, number of students positive, number of staff positive, and number of resulting quarantined staff and students.

4) The process that will be followed for any potential changes to RED/High Risk level operations. The first priority is to potentially expand the red operations plan to include 1st and 2nd grade students. Upper elementary, middle, and high school red operations plan changes would come after. This will be a deliberate process without predetermined timelines to ensure safety and consider all the implications. Not all stakeholders agree with adding more students into our schools during periods of RED/High Risk and high community transmission. Work will be done with Principal’s and other staff on new mitigation plans. Staff & parent surveys will be conducted on their comfort levels. Plans will then be presented to the Medical Advisory Group, The AK DHSS, DEED and then the Board of Education.

5) Activities while in RED/High Risk Operations (Overview). Mask/face coverings (ASAA).

6) Human Resource Overview on COVID-19 impacts on staff leave, remote work requests, substitutes, school closures.
