Background Information:
In the summer of 2016 KPBSD partnered with Hanover Research to examine district staffing practices and formulas. The two components of the study consist of #1 a benchmarking comparison of several geographically large school districts and #2 a stakeholder staffing survey to gauge KPBSD stakeholder perceptions on current staffing levels within the district.
At the Board work session on December 5th Representatives from Hanover Research will start by providing the Board a summary of the Benchmarking Staffing Formulas and Policies research it conducted. Hanover will discuss the results of a survey it administered to several school districts on staffing practices, formulas, and ratios. In addition, the report profiles four of the surveyed districts to examine their practices in greater detail.
Part II of Hanover’s presentation will focus on the results of the District Staffing Survey it administered on behalf of the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District throughout September of 2016. Responses provide insights on stakeholders’ satisfaction with current staffing levels at KPBSD as well as desired changes and suggestions for dealing with budget shortfalls. The analyses includes a total of 1,639 respondents.
At the conclusion of the presentation and work session Hanover will be available for questions the Board and Administration may have.
These two reports from Hanover, along with the annual Class Size Enrollment Report, the FY18 District Projected Average Daily Membership Report, and community feedback from recently held District Budget Meetings are all important pieces of information that will be available to the Board and Administration for making staffing and budgetary decisions for FY18 once a clearer revenue picture from the State and Borough emerge.
