AR 6161.4 Acceptable Use Policy-Internet Safety Policy was introduced at the 6-6-2022 Committee meeting and was moved to the 6-27-2022 Committee meeting for further review with Mr. Soderquist's recommended edits. It was moved to the 8-1-2022 Committee Meeting with Mr. Soderquist's additional suggested edits since the 6-6-2022. It is on the Work Session agenda for today for discussion and review and will be on the agenda this evening for first reading and approval.

Mr. Soderquist's suggested edits since the 6-6-2022 meeting are summarized below, and can be identified in the document below by comments.

  • Simplified definition of personal devices to include laptops and other handheld devices (effectively removes specific mention of MP3 players and other outdated equipment categories)
  • Reworks spamming section to recognize legitimate mailings (such as school newsletters), while continuing to prohibit unsolicited mass mailings
  • Adds new Account Security section discussing responsible use of network accounts. This section also incorporates the previously-existing “Security” section, which has been proposed for removal
  • Reworks the “user should” / “user should not” sections to encourage digital citizenship, while removing the ambiguous games language
