Background Information:
The following data was provided to John O'Brien, assistant superintendent, in November of 2017 per his request to Rich Bartolowits, Connections Homeschool administrator. This data does not include the second semester of 2017-18.
As you examine the data on students who transferred to Connections and used allotment for college classes keep in mind:
- The presence of evidence (use of allotment for college tuition) does not necessarily point to causation. Some students might transfer to Connections for other reasons, then they end up taking KPC classes as part their course mix. Not all necessarily transfer to Connections so they can use the allotment for college tuition.
- The opposite may also be true. This data does not include students who may have taken more college classes given the opportunity, but who wanted to stay at their traditional school.
- There is a significant spike in the 2014-15 school year. Twelve juniors and seniors transferred to Connections that year from Skyview H.S. That was the first year Skyview was no longer a high school.
- There are instances of sophomores, and even a freshman, going to Connections and taking college classes. (Not many, but there are a few.)
- About a half-dozen students in this data withdrew from Connections at the start of 2nd semester of their senior year. Typically, that means they took college classes during fall term, but then did not take classes during the spring term. Students may do this so they can walk with their friends at their area school.
