      Background Information:  Apple Bus Company, the new bussing contractor for KPBSD starting in FY18 has been making preparations for the start up of services as of July 1, 2017.

      The Central Peninsula shop will be located at 34234 Industrial Street off of Funny River Road and construction is well under way. It appears that the facility will be ready for the July 1, 2017 start up.

      In Homer, Apple tried to get several lots in town approved, but were told by the City that those lots were not appropriate for school bus terminal lots. Apple has now arranged for their shop to be located by Crested Crane Street which is located at about mile 3 of East End Road. It is my understanding that construction will start soon at that location.

      A search for property in Seward is ongoing. We have agreed with Apple that if they are unable to find something by the start of school that we will let them park their busses on school property like we used to do with First Student.

      A management team from Apple Bus will in the District during the third full week of February to meet with District personnel and continue with preparation for the July 1, 2017 start up.
