          Background Information:

The district administration is proposing a revision to AR 6146.1, High School Graduation Requirements, to better define the number of courses students must be enrolled in to be considered full-time, and also to align KPBSD policy with state statute. Although there is no specific statute defining a full-time student in traditional, neighborhood schools, 4 AAC 09.040 defines full-time and part-time student status for students enrolled in correspondence programs. This is the enrollment guide KPBSD had traditionally used to define enrollment status for both our Connections students, as well as, students enrolled in our neighborhood schools. The proposed revision to this policy would change the wording for enrollment status from the number of credits enrolled, to the number of courses enrolled. This change simply more clearly define a full-time student as one enrolled in a minimum of four courses per semester.

Dec. 9, 2019: Reviewed by the Policy Review Committee and forwarded to a work session with a recommendation for approval.
