During a Board of Education Worksession on February 6th, 2017, board members discussed options for what to do with seven land parcels in Kenai that were originally dedicated to the KPBSD construction program. Five of those parcels are easily accessed and the board has several options to pursue regarding their use. Two of the lots do not have road access, and therefore are not suitable lots for any sort of building or development by the KPBSD construction program. The board of education was interested in selling those two lots and having the proceeds go directly into the KPBSD construction program.
After looking into options, selling those two lots can happen. However, according to the borough’s land manager, Marcus Mueller, since the lots are legally owned by the borough and not the school district, the lots would need to be disposed of, or sold, during the regularly scheduled Kenai Peninsula Borough land sale, which occurs only once per year, in February. As a result, it is recommended that the question of selling those lots be postponed, and the school district administration will begin the paperwork and process again in the fall of 2017, and will involve the KPBSD board of education at that time.
