Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief fund (ESSER II)

The State of Alaska received $159,719,422 of ESSER II funds, of that share $142,747,480 DEED must distribute to schools.

KPBSD will receive $9,088,405 in ESSER II funds for a two-year period that will include FY22 and FY23.

District Use of Funds: In addition to the uses allowable under the ESSER fund (CARES Act grant), districts may use the funds to address learning loss among students, preparing schools for reopening, and testing, repairing, and upgrading projects to improve air quality in school buildings.

COVID-19 has caused extended absences from the classroom and resulted in a challenging year for our students/parents and staff. A two-year plan to assist in the enhancement of education for all students will allow us to ensure that our students have recovered from any COVID-19 related educational deficiencies.

Ideas that have come from the leadership team and the district instructional team are below:

Additional Interventionists in schools.
After-School Programs (with Transportation)
Summer School Programs (with Transportation)
Elementary School Counselors
Additional Middle School and High School counselors.
CTE Academies
Title 9/Compliance/Small schools coordinator
K-12 Remote – maintain the online option for families
Increase Distance Education offerings
Additional devices.
Credit recovery
Middle College expansion
Teacher FLIGHT Prep
CPR/Lifeguard/referee/Ag/CNA pre-cursor training
Family engagement models
Connections family liaison
Transition camps for Special education, 8^th grade 5/6^th grade and 3^rd grade.

Development and delivery of the above educational opportunities will use all available funds.
