Background Information:
In 2016-17, the School District pursued three goals. The first was to improve the overall graduation rate across the district through blended learning, collaboration, intervention and data analysis. While the final graduation rate calculation has not been completed as we wait for the State to finish its analysis, several activities were accomplished to improve upon the current 82.73% rate. All schools have implemented the use of Canvas to begin the creation of a digital parallel for student and parent use outside of the classroom. Schools have also begun to partner with other schools during staff collaboration time. All high schools developed intervention plans for students behind on credits to support credit recovery opportunities. An early warning system has been created that schools have and will utilize to identify students at-risk of not graduating on-time, at much earlier grade levels, to create plans to support on-time graduation efforts.
The second goal was to clearly define college and career readiness attributes of all graduates from KPBSD that are supported by key performance indicators. The research behind this comes from Redefining Ready. Dashboards are in creation for schools to utilize for improvement purposes and for the public to view school performance.
The third goal was to provide high quality professional development for all staff to improve the organization as a whole. A cadre of teachers participated in the Gates Foundation program supporting teacher leadership development which includes plans to expand the program next year. Over 25 teachers were trained and participated in Danielson model observations to provide peer feedback to teachers across the district. School administrators participated in a triad model of observation to improve their observation skills and teacher feedback. Most administrator meetings implemented an Edcamp format of professional learning where school administrators could focus on instructional topics of their choice. Finally, the teacher coaches provided support to all first year teachers across the district through observations, lesson plan development and supplemental resources to improve instruction.
