Background Information:
Please find attached the revised Six Year Plan for FY 2018-2023.
After a lot of conversation and work related to the Nanwalek School, the projects have been revised and the plan is being proposed for approval.
As you are aware, Nanwalek has two issues that we have discussed. The first is an issue of overcapacity in the school itself based on AKDEED formulas, and the second is a shortage of staff housing. Only the capacity issue can be addressed on a 6-year plan; therefore the housing issue will need to be addressed outside of the Six Year Plan.
Land usage around the existing school is complicated because of the restrictions put in place due to a previous fuel spill site near the school. Most of the existing parcel is capped with a restriction that there can be no digging more than 36” down, so any septic or plumbing will be difficult if not impossible. With these restrictions in place, the best available solution is to place a 980 square foot portable next to the existing school, and that is what is being proposed.
Appropriate KPBSD and KPB staff will be available at the work session for further discussion.
