Background Information:
After teleconferencing with the Homer area board representatives regarding transportation concerns, it was agreed that a Transportation Work Session would not be needed at the April Board meeting to address Homer related concerns.
It was agreed that the top priority in Homer is to try and assist with getting an after school daycare program in place similar to the Boys & Girls Club after school daycare programs in place on the central peninsula. Such a program would greatly reduce transportation needs beyond the normal to and from school service currently being provided.
We also discussed the ability to transport students to youth related programs such as SPARC if those programs are on an existing route and are willing to sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the district addressing liability insurance and child supervision requirements.
The subject of district student activity bussing was also discussed. District administration has received multiple and varied responses on the subject of the district continuing or getting out of student activity bussing. Based on that input, district administration is recommending that we take the next year to gather and evaluate all relevant information regarding student activity bussing. Given that time line, it was agreed that a Transportation Work Session would not be needed at the April Board meeting to discuss student activity transportation.
