In partnership with students, teachers, and parents/guardians, opportunities shall be given for a student to demonstrate ability in all areas of a given subject. Parents/guardians are encouraged to take an active role in the education of their student. The district shall provide opportunities for students and parents/guardians to self-monitor progress through the use of technology and direct parent/guardian teacher contact. The evaluation of student performance will ensure that the student, teacher, and the parents can monitor progress toward the educational goals of a particular course of study. Parents/guardians are encouraged to use PowerSchool’s Parent Portal to monitor their students’ progress, and call or email the teacher with any questions or concerns.

Whenever it becomes evident that a student is in danger of failing, or not proficient, in a subject, the teacher shall contact the student’s parent/guardian regarding the student’s possible failure, and may request a conference with the student’s parent/guardian.

No student shall be failed/not proficient in a subject unless the parent/guardian has been notified by written notification or personal contact (i.e. phone call, email, text message) of the possible failure/not being proficient. Teachers shall document all such contacts, and attempted contacts, in the district student management system, e.g. PowerSchool’s Parent Contact Log. As partners in their child’s education, parents/guardians have a responsibility to ensure their contact information is up to date at the student’s school site, so school personnel can contact them when needed.

Site administration will be kept informed and updated by the teacher throughout this process.

This policy shall be summarized in the Parent/Student Handbook annually. Employees will also be notified annually.
