Please find attached two documents for your review.
There was a question at our previous worksession regarding the letter descriptors used in the "Category" column of the Six Year Plan. The first attachment labeled "6 Year Plan Categories" provides the requested detail regarding those descriptors.
The second attachment is the latest revised FY2018-2013 Six Year Plan for your review. The biggest change is the addition of Nanwalek School to the list. This addition is needed because Nanwalek is currently at 128% of capacity and it appears enrollment will remain steady with some possible growth. Efforts to accommodate space needs within the current building have been maximized.
It is important to understand that the current building (1958 original construction, with various additions) cannot be added on to or materially changed without bringing the entire building up to current code regarding sprinklers, HVAC, mechanical, OSHA, ADA, etc.. With that in mind, there are a few feasible options for consideration and discussion at the worksession.
One option would be to build a new 30’ x 40’ 2-story building adjacent to the existing school (not attached) with some combination of instructional space on the lower floor and living quarters above. We are trying to explore if it might be possible to access public safety housing grant funding to assist with the housing portion.
Another option could be to build two 980 square foot portables, capacity of no more than 49 each, either built on site or barged over in modules. No plumbing and minimal ADA access, but no sprinkler systems required. Possibly used only for office / teacher space, freeing up some space in the main building for instruction.
Further details of the options will be discussed at the worksession.
Additional work will need to be performed to determine costs for the Nanwalek and Office Remodel Safety projects.
