KPSAA is seeking input from the School Board on these recommended handbook changes that the KPSAA Board has discussed during the 2016-2017 school year. After discussion and input from the School Board at this April 3, 2017 Work Session, recommended changes will then be reviewed at the next KPSAA Executive Board meeting on April 13, 2017. KPSAA will then present the final draft handbooks for the School Board to review at its May, 2017 meeting, and will seek final approval of the handbooks at the June, 2017 School Board meeting. Attached please find the the KPSAA Board recommended Handbook changes for the following: Elementary Handbook Changes: None Middle School Handbook Changes: Page 10, Section B, Item 6: Update item title from Borough Tournaments to Non-KPBSD School Participation. Also update Handbook Guidelines in the last sentence to be Activity Rules. This change is consistent with other language throughout the handbook. Page 25, Section A Tournament Information (See Tournament Director’s Handbook): Delete this item entirely as the Tournament Director’s Handbook no longer exists. Page 26, Activity Rules Basketball: Add section E. Small School Borough Tournaments shall be single elimination with a consolation bracket, thereby guaranteeing each team at least two games. Page 34, Activity Rules Volleyball: Add section E. Small School Borough Tournaments shall be single elimination with a consolation bracket, thereby guaranteeing each team at least two games. Page 51, Appendix B: Update to add a list of eligible activities for parent/guardians to choose from rather than writing in the activity. Pages 26, 32, and 34: Update Classification sections to include sixth grade participation for schools that currently have sixth grade student, and need sixth grade students in order to have a team. This language currently exists on page 33 Activity Rules Track & Field, and should apply to all middle school team sports. Page 35, Activity Rules Wrestling:
Update section B, Exceptions to rules: A wrestler can move up one weight above what they weighed in at the Borough Tournament regardless of the number of matches at that weight. Update section D, Weigh-in. Initial weigh-in must be recorded by the coach, and all records must be on file in the principal’s office prior to the start of the athlete’s first schedule event. A wrestler may only drop one weight class below this initial weigh-in.

High School Handbook Changes: Page 11, Student Scholastic Eligibility for Participation, section c: Add a second sentence: For second semester the eligibility determination will be made the first Wednesday following the grade check. Page 18, Participation Limitations for Baseball: update to the new ASAA guidelines for pitch counts, which will be effective with the 2017 season. Page 22, Coaches Responsibilities, item 15: Update to meet new ASAA requirement for spring outdoor sports the Guide to Heat Acclimatization and Illness is also required.
