FY22 Fund Transfer

In the FY22 budget, we have a planned transfer of $550,000 for Student Nutrition Services (SNS). During the FY22 school year, all student meals were provided free of charge and the District received reimbursement through the National School Lunch Program.  Since we received full reimbursement of meals, the SNS program did not use any fund balance and will be increasing their fund balance for use in future years.

The Student Transportation department is funded through the State of Alaska based on the number of students in our Brick-and-Mortar schools. In FY21, we saw a decrease in student’s attending our Brick-and-Mortar schools due to COVID-19 and it required us to use $357,640 of the Student Transportation fund balance. In FY23, we saw a return of students to our brick-and-mortar schools, but we are still below the number of students. As a result we are again facing a deficit between revenues and expenditures.

We are requesting the scheduled transfer of $550,000 currently budgeted for SNS to be used for Student Transportation for FY22.
