At the April 3, 2017 Board of Education meeting, the Board agreed to partner with Education Elements to help support our school district in the complex and daunting task of systematically designing and implementing personalized learning throughout our district.  Shortly after that meeting, Education Elements began its work at the district level to begin developing the framework for moving forward over the next three years.

At the district level, a Personalized Learning Council (PL Council) has been created, comprised of a variety of teachers, principals and district level leaders.  The PL Council has met several times already with Education Elements and their work revolves around:

        • developing district wide expectations of personalized learning and its design and implementation,
        • curriculum, materials and Open Educational Resources (OER’s),
        • developing a technology support plan, and
        • developing professional learning opportunities for teachers to best support implementation of personalized learning in classrooms.

At the school level, a team from Education Elements traveled to our district last May and began their work in nine of our schools, which is the first of three “waves” of schools that will work with Education Elements over the next year.  The second wave of schools will begin their work with Education Elements in late fall/early winter, 2017, and the third wave will begin their work in the spring of 2018.   The work performed by Education Elements thus far has been to conduct Readiness Assessments and site visits to our nine, wave one schools and to also deliver a Foundations Workshop to those schools on the first day of this past summer’s Leadership Academy on May 31.

Additionally, Education Elements also began some preliminary work with wave two and three schools by conducting a Personalized Learning Discovery Workshop for wave two and three school principals and teacher leaders during the second day of this past summer’s Leadership Academy on June 1.

We will continue to update the Board of Education members regarding the scope of work undertaken in our partnership with Education Elements.
