Budget Transfers Over $50,000 – Background Information
Budget Transfer 635, in the amount of $60,000, has been processed by the Business Office to authorize Fireweed Academy to use existing budgeted funds for the purchase of a yurt.
This transfer does not represent additional funding to Fireweed Academy. Rather, it reallocates funds already available within the school’s approved budget to support a planned capital purchase. The funds are currently available within Fireweed’s budget and are being transferred to the appropriate expenditure category to complete the purchase.
A budget is a financial plan created to allocate funds for estimated program costs and operational needs in accordance with District goals and priorities. As circumstances change and specific expenditures are identified, budget transfers are used to align budgeted funds with actual expenditures while maintaining compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). All budget transfer requests are reviewed for appropriateness, necessity, and compliance with District policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Because this budget transfer exceeds $50,000, Board of Education approval is required under Board Policy 3120.
