This work session with the Board will highlight the challenges our schools face on a daily basis in supporting and educating children who have experienced emotional, physical, and other forms of trauma or adversities in their lives. According to the CDC Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) "...have a tremendous impact on future violence victimization and perpetration, and lifelong health opportunity. As such early experiences are an important public health issue."
During this session we will highlight trainings our staff receive on identifying and assisting students suffering from ACEs. We will provide an overview of how our health curriculum addresses this issue, supports and resources for students the district provides through general fund sources of revenue and through competitive grants and other funding sources. A listing and brief overview of the vast amount of community partnerships and agreements the district has in place will also be discussed.
2/2/18 REVISED to include updated information in the ACES BOE presentation.
