Testifying at a Meeting

Speaking at a School Board Meeting

The Board of Education welcomes public comments on both agenda and non-agenda items during regular business meetings. Each speaker is allowed up to three minutes to address the Board.

When You Can Speak

Public testimony may be given during the following agenda items:

•    Agenda Item 5A – Student Presentations/Comments: Any topic
•    Agenda Item 6A – Public Comments: Items not on the agenda
•    Public Comment on Action Items
•    Agenda Item 12A – Public Comments: Any topic
Signing Up to Testify

Signing up in advance is optional.

Advance Sign-Up
•    Submit your request by the Friday before the business meeting to Nikkol Sipes.
•    Requests submitted later, including the day of the meeting, may not be received in time to be added to the list.

Participating Virtually
Members of the public who wish to provide testimony remotely may join the meeting via Zoom:

In-Person Sign-Up
•    Available at the testimony table
•    The sign-up sheet is removed 5 minutes before the meeting begins

Testimony Guidelines

When signing up and speaking:
•    Provide your name and the topic of your testimony
•    You cannot sign up on behalf of someone else
•    Speakers are called in the order they signed up
•    If time allows, individuals who did not sign up in advance may speak after those on the list
•    Each speaker is limited to three minutes
•    Comments about specific students or staff are not permitted
•    Defamatory or abusive remarks are out of order
•    The Board does not respond during public comment
•    Speaker names are recorded in the official meeting minutes
