One of the items that is in Principals, Directors, Assistant Superintendents, and the Superintendents contracts is “R Factor” language, or Retirement Factor. That language follows as excerpted from current contracts:
R FACTOR: The EMPLOYEE will receive $650.00 per year worked as an administrator with KPBSD if notification of retirement or resignation is given to the District by January 15th in FY20 and in December 15th FY21.
During the last series of negotiations, the Principals negotiated an increase in the amount from $600.00 per year to $650.00 per year. The District’s intent was that the increased amount was to be implemented for all employees with such R Factor language. Subsequently, all Principal, Director and Assistant Superintendent contracts have been issued with the $650.00 per year amount.
Superintendent O’Brien’s contract was drafted and signed prior to the negotiated change/increase in the yearly amount, and indicates an amount of $600.00 per year in the R FACTOR section. When the District agreed to increase the amount for Principals, it was the District’s intent to increase the amount for all employees eligible for R FACTOR payment. As such, it is recommended that the Board approve Superintendent O’Brien’s R Factor payment using the yearly amount of $650.00.
