The last time that KPBSD increased student meal prices was for the 2011-2012 school year. We increased lunch prices for K-6 Students from $2.75 to $2.85, and 7-12 lunch prices were increased from $3.25 to $3.35. These increases were implemented to meet the Paid Lunch Equity (PLE) requirements of the Child Nutrition Reauthorization 2010.
I have attached a worksheet that reflects the prices for breakfast and lunch that will be charged by our comparable districts for the 17/18 school year. As you can see from the worksheet, our proposed elementary prices for breakfast are right in-line with the other the comparable districts, and our secondary prices are lower than some of the other districts. Our proposed lunch prices for elementary and secondary will be lower than all of the comparable districts.
We are also proposing to increase the price of white and chocolate ala-carte milk from $.60 to $.75 to reflect the increased cost of milk.
As we discussed at the May worksession, it is estimated that these increases will raise approximately $34,600. These will be used to try and decrease the deficit experienced in the Student Nutrition Services Fund, and lower the amount necessary to transfer from the General Fund.
